How to teach interns to best benefit your SEO specialist

Fortunate SEO professionals may receive help from temporary workers or interns, but how do you explain SEO to someone who isn't familiar with optimizing a website? SEO has many facets; you could focus on having the person work on only one thing that takes up too much of your time.

Having a helper write content, if they have writing skills, will give your content a fresh voice. Someone new may have an entirely new take on your company's product or service, possibly attracting a new audience. Content could include articles, guest posts or social media posts. Do not allow your intern to post anything, especially a social media post, without your proofreading it and approving it first.

If your website is image-heavy, have your helper check each image for ALT tags and add new ones as needed. Explain that this task helps your company's photos appear on Google's image search, as well as helping visually impaired visitors understand the image. If your intern has photography skills, you could ask them to take photos to add to your image library.

Instead of trying to overwhelm someone with on-page and offsite SEO, find their skill set and use them to your advantage. A budding videographer could create how-to videos related to your product or they could videotape its manufacturer. Journalism majors could interview a C-level executive for one of the interview websites cropping up or write your next press release.

Any help that you receive has to be balanced against how much harm the person could do you your reputation. Let them write content in word, so they cannot post anything without your okay.
