What Not to Do with Your SEO

If you're an SEO professional, you've probably had clients who received the worst SEO advice, They either got the advice from their previous SEO company or they found a blog that offered bad SEO advice which may have been relevant 10 years ago when the blog was last updated.

Buying Links

Many SEO nightmares begin with buying links. A few bad apples in the SEO industry will charge their clients for link building services and they will turn around and buy links. There are also new publishers who are searching for link building advice and come across a link selling service in the SERPs. They believe the claims on the website insisting Google will never find out they bought links. It's the reputable SEO firms which have to disavow all the links when someone comes to them not understanding why their website no longer ranks well after they bought links.

Chasing Directory Links

Very few directories are worth worrying about with the exception being certain professional organizations and local directories run by local organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce. No one uses the majority of directories to find a business, they use Google.

Article Spinning Programs

Stealing popular content and spinning it, which is using software to generate dozens of new articles, was popular once. Unfortunately, the practice is still in use today even though the article quality is terrible.

Duplicate Content

Google views websites with duplicate content, even if credit goes to the original source, as adding no value. However. the search engine can recognize syndicated content.

Keyword Stuffing

Google can understand what a page is about without a keyword in the page title, page URL, meta description, headers and liberally sprinkled throughout the content. The keyword may be relevant, but a page can be over-optimized. Write for visitors, not search engines.

It's amazing that people still use these outdated SEO strategies, but SEO professionals frequently see websites in trouble because of someone's misguided attempt at gaming Google. For more information click here https://www.reddit.com/r/SEO/comments/birhzr/whatistheworstadviceyouhaveseenfor_seo/.
