Traffic from Google Goes Down While Other Sources Deliver Increase

A website owner noticed that they usually get most of their search traffic from Google returns, but more recently, they are getting a bigger share of their website traffic from Bing, Yahoo and Duck Duck Go. For example, Google had been 80 to 90 percent of their traffic. Now it is closer to 60 percent. They wanted to know if anybody else has had the same experience.

One person wrote that this seemed weird. They asked the original poster if their total traffic is down or just Google. The original poster replied to say that Google traffic has decreased, and alternate search engine traffic has increased. They are getting the same total but with a different distribution.

One person replied that they have switched to using Google for basic searches and Duck Duck Go for in-depth queries. A different person agreed and stated they are doing the same thing. Someone else added that they are seeing more traffic from Yahoo and Duck Duck Go.

A commentator had a reason for the increase in Duck Duck Go traffic. They said that Duck Duck Go is in the middle of a big ad campaign, which is resulting in a lot of new users. Another person agreed with this, stating that Duck Duck Go is putting up a lot of new billboards near them. Someone else said Duck Duck Go is making money from the shopping tab, which goes through Amazon affiliate searches. A few others also noticed more traffic from Duck Duck Go.

One person explained that a decrease in Google traffic will result in an increase in percentages from other sources. The original poster explained that it's a percentage change, not a total traffic change. The source distribution is different. One person wondered if the browser sources have also changed, explaining that more people are using Brave. One last individual reported that a recent algorithm changed mucked up the Google results. Many others have also noticed quality problems with the returns they get when doing a Google search. Some people have switched to Bing in order to get Microsoft rewards points.
