SERP: First Page, Top Spot, or Social Media? Tips to Deciding How to Proceed Once You've Hit the First Page
If your website is on the first page of the search engine results page (SERP), you may believe that have made it finally, or you want the top spot. Getting to the very top of Google isn't easy, but it is possible, unless you are going after highly competitive keywords against major corporations with hundreds of pages on their website and old domains.
While you should never stop optimizing your website, at some point, you must realize that you may never reach the top spot. A company with an older domain will rank higher if everything else is the same; there is really nothing you can do about it. Concentrate on getting traffic from social media, guest posting and other sources and you will not miss the additional traffic that you would have received from having the top position in the SERP.
If you feel that you can do better, look at the content the number one website offers. Content is still king, and if your content does not offer more value than your competitors, get to work on adding to your existing content. Another strategy is to analyze your competitor's backlinks and try to get a link from those websites.
Every little thing counts when you are trying to move up from the fourth to the top position on the first page of Google. Check your page speed and responsiveness to ensure that you cannot do any better. Verify that all your images are tagged correctly and any video content that you have is captioned or there is a transcript for the search bots to read. Check for broken links as well.
If you have a real chance of earning the top position, be patient. Keep creating engaging content that people want to share and you will eventually have the position that you deserve.
