Google Algorithm Updates: A Story of Winners and Losers

There are always winners and losers whenever Google does an update to its algorithm for ranking websites in its search engine results. That is just the way that things go. Some win and some lose, but typically people understand why they are on one side of the fence or the other. Thus far, the medic update that Google just released recently has left many questioning why they are receiving a decrease in traffic.

Google seems to have targeted websites that make promises about their medical products as far as what they are able to do. It appears that Google is interested in moving traffic off of certain websites and onto others. They would probably make the claim that they are just trying to get their users to the most accurate information that is available, but they are in essence also helping to make that choice for the search engine user. Basically, Google is trying to tell them which websites Google believes are legitimate and which they are not pleased with. It is something that has irritated more than a few people from around the Internet.

People are upset because they are literally seeing a drop of fifteen percent or more of their traffic instantly. Some are saying on Reddit and elsewhere that they have lost closer to twenty-five to thirty percent of their organic traffic all because of the new update. That is a lot of damage to be done because of a single decision made by Google!

Every time a new update comes out from Google, there is a certain amount of reaction that you have to expect from people who are used to the old way that things were done. Still, you have to understand that on some level many of these individuals are making their living off of the traffic that they receive from search engine results. If they cannot count on those levels being maintained, then they are going to have at least some of their hard-earned money going out the window. This current update has done that to some people. We just have to wonder what the next update will do.
